The Summation of All Things in Christ
Studies in Ephesians with a Local Church Emphasis
Lesson 93 : The Whole Body Makes the Body Grow (4:16)
How does v. 16 relate to the entire passage? – How does vv. 13-16 relate to each other? – while the general sense of v. 16 is clear, the details are confusing – this is a conclusion of a long sentence that began in v. 11 – sentence diagram to clarify its meaning – ‘out from Whom,’ from Christ as a person, not as the head – the body glorifies Christ – the strength of believers within our churches comes from Christ not the world – Ephesians 4:16 with Colossians 2:19 – Paul uses ‘body’ twice in this verse, both times in reference to our churches – the emphasis is upon the body as a group, not as individuals within the body – the whole body is to be active in promoting its growth – although it is the whole body that helps the body to grow, it all depends upon Christ as the source of energy and direction
